Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the tarpaulin roof of a new open top cost £1 200 more than a standard dry container?+

The PVC cover at 900 g/m² costs £600-£900 on its own, plus 4-6 galvanised steel bows (€250 each), plus reinforced frame (+£300 in material). For a brand new one, you also pay for the 5-year cover — the same cover ages to second-hand condition within 5-8 years outdoors.

What weight can the frame of a new open top support during lifting?+

Total gross permissible load: 30,480 kg (new 40' open top, ISO standard 1496-1). Lifting by the four upper ISO corners only, never by the bows (which are removable). For frame lifting, use a certified CMU 30 t crane.

Is the new open top certified for sea and rail transport?+

Yes: CSC plate + CTU certification according to IMO code. The transcontinental rail route (Asia-Europe via Russia/Kazakhstan) often requires a new open top due to customs inspections and cover traceability.

Can the cover be partially rolled back for side loading?+

Yes: cover tensioned by straps with buckles, unfasten straps on one side to roll back 1/3 or 1/2 of length. Allows front loader access without completely removing cover. Expect 15-20 minutes at two people to re-cover properly.
